The inspiration for this work comes from the women of Oaxaca who spend their days selling their wares in the state's outdoor markets, mainly in the isthmus region. This work is part of the artist’s collection “The Women of the Flowers”.
The Isthmus of Tehuantepec (tewanteˈpek, or "jaguar mountain") is the narrow stretch of land between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. Before the opening of the Panama Canal, it was a major overland transport route known simply as the Tehuantepec Route.
