Las Mujeres del Mercado (Women of the Market)
Las Mujeres del Mercado (Women of the Market)
Oil on Canvas
220cm wide x 145cm high
This work is part of the artist’s collection “The Women of the Flowers”. The artist’s main inspiration is the women of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca. It is inspired by a real scene of a market in Oaxaca. A market scene filtered by the artist’s eyes full of colour and life - a characteristic of the artist’s work.
The Isthmus of Tehuantepec (tewanteˈpek, or "jaguar mountain") is the narrow stretch of land between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. Before the opening of the Panama Canal, it was a major overland transport route known simply as the Tehuantepec Route.
